German municipalities implement digital childcare registration

Municipalities in Germany are implementing or reminding citizens of digital processes for childcare registration.

In Dinslaken, parents wishing to enroll children in daycare facilities (Kita) for the 2027 school year must complete registration via the KITAONLINE portal by November 1. The process allows parents to select up to three preferred facilities. While the online system facilitates the application, officials recommend personal visits to facilities to gain a first-hand impression. Decisions regarding placements are expected to be communicated in early 2027.

In Herten, a new digital demand reporting system for child daycares (Kindertagespflege) has been launched. Since October 5, parents can use the TPF-Online platform to report childcare needs from home. The process involves submitting personal data and confirming the request via email within 72 hours, after which specialist advisors contact the parents. The city administration advises reporting needs at least six months in advance, noting that while the digital report is a prerequisite for city-supported placement, it does not guarantee a specific spot.
