German municipalities implement urban strategies for aging populations and climate resilience

Municipalities in Germany are implementing various strategies to address demographic changes and urban revitalization. In North Rhine-Westphalia, the Forum Seniorenarbeit NRW is hosting a network day focused on the WHO concept of “Age-friendly Cities.” The event aims to highlight practical examples and successful municipal strategies that improve the quality of life for older residents through improved structures and community engagement.

In Rhineland-Palatinate, the Ministry for Economic Affairs, Tourism, Energy and Climate has launched a competition to provide municipalities with professional digital visualizations of town centers. The initiative, announced by Minister Michael Ebling, aims to help ten selected communities visualize how street spaces can be transformed into greener, more climate-resilient, and attractive social hubs. These visual tools are intended to assist in urban planning and public participation by showing the potential for improved pedestrian areas and increased quality of life in town centers.
