German municipalities launch community tree planting initiatives
German municipalities are launching initiatives to increase local greenery and biodiversity through community tree planting programs.
The city of Übach-Palenberg is hosting its 45th tree planting event on November 6, 2026. Residents can sponsor personal memorial trees, such as oaks, to mark significant life events like weddings, births, or anniversaries. The cost for a tree is 120 euros, and registration is required by October 21, 2026.
Meanwhile, the municipality of Bedburg-Hau is offering free trees to households to strengthen local biodiversity. From October 15 to October 25, residents can apply via email or post to receive one tree, including varieties such as apple, cherry, pear, hornbeam, or ash, while supplies last.
