German murder trial of 8‑year‑old Fabian highlights suspect's smartphone data

During the trial of the 2025 killing of eight‑year‑old Fabian in the Rostock district, police digital forensics presented a detailed analysis of the suspect’s smartphone. The device showed intense use over four and a half days: about 100 voice messages, 207 phone calls and over 3,100 messenger interactions.

The analysis confirmed that the suspect cleaned her car on 10 October, the day Fabian was murdered near Klein Upahl and his body was largely burned. Four days later, when the body was found, the suspect told police she had not cleaned the car for a long time and introduced the term “burnt body,” a phrase not previously used in the case. Camera footage placed her car in Güstrow on the day of the murder. On 13 October, the suspect exchanged messages with a witness about a police search at Inselsee, where detection dogs had been deployed.

These digital findings are being used as key evidence in the Landgericht Rostock proceedings.
