German museum digital catalog highlights late Gothic lock and Frederick II medal

The Stadtmuseum Simeonstift in Trier presents a richly ornamented late‑Gothic iron chest lock dated to the period around 1450‑1500. Hand‑forged and hand‑nailed, the lock would have secured valuables such as money and documents for affluent households and also served as a status symbol.

The Museum Weißenfels – Schloss Neu‑Augustusburg displays a silver medal engraved with a portrait of Frederick II. The reverse shows the allegorical figure of Historia beside Chronos and bears the inscription “VERITATIS PARADOXA” and the date MDCCLVIIII (1759). Accompanying the medal is a Liberello containing copper‑plate engravings, underscoring the artistic and historical value of the piece.
