German nursing services lose 2.3 million hours annually to eGK administration
The Federal Association of Private Providers of Social Services (bpa) reports that German nursing facilities lose approximately 2.3 million hours of labor annually due to the administrative requirements of the electronic health card (eGK).
A survey of 1,016 member companies revealed that the quarterly requirement to read patient health cards results in an average of 21.6 hours of organizational work per quarter, or roughly 86 hours per year, per facility. This burden affects an estimated 26,799 outpatient and inpatient care services across the country.
In addition to the administrative tasks, caregivers face average waiting times of 26 minutes per visit at medical practices. bpa President Bernd Meurer criticized the inefficiency, stating that Germany cannot afford to have nursing staff wasting valuable time traveling to and waiting at doctor's offices for card processing.
