German office occupancy rates increase according to Drees & Sommer report
According to the Drees & Sommer Workspace Benchmark Report 2026/27, office occupancy rates in Germany are rising significantly. The report indicates that current space utilization is estimated by the largest group of respondents to be between 61 and 70 percent, a substantial increase from the 30 to 40 percent range recorded in 2023/24.
While mobile working remains a staple of professional life—with 69 percent of respondents reporting two to three home office days per week—the trend is shifting toward more physical presence. Office attendance is growing from an average of two days to three days per week. The real estate industry shows the highest utilization levels, with over half of participants estimating occupancy between 61 and 80 percent.
The study, which surveyed over 200 individuals across 17 industries, suggests that companies are now facing the challenge of designing workspaces that provide tangible value over home offices to encourage voluntary attendance.
