German officials visit craft businesses to address labor shortages

German political figures are engaging with local craft businesses to address critical challenges facing the sector, including the skilled labor shortage, bureaucracy, and digitalization.

In Castrop-Rauxel, Parliamentary State Secretary Stefan Rouenhoff and MP Michael Breilmann visited Theo Milte Bedachungs GmbH. The company utilizes specialized apprenticeship models to attract youth, such as an ‘Azubi-Taxi’ transport service and providing driver's licenses upon successful completion of training to increase professional commitment.

In the Trier region, Economic Minister Michael Ebling met with various businesses, including M&S Zahntechnik and Hubert Schmitt carpentry, to discuss modern training conditions and the integration of digital technologies. Discussions highlighted the need for mentorship and orientation for young workers, the burden of increasing administrative bureaucracy, and the competitive pressure for skilled labor in border regions near Luxembourg.
