German oil majors post record gasoline overprofits, Greenpeace says

A Greenpeace analysis released in June shows that Germany's mineral‑oil companies earned a record daily surplus of €6.4 million from gasoline sales in May, up from €4.9 million in April and €4 million in March. The same study estimated diesel profits at €16.3 million per day, accounting for the bulk of the total extra operating profit of roughly €2.4 billion generated between March and May.

The excess earnings were calculated by comparing current fuel prices with those before the Iran‑war and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. A two‑month fuel tax rebate that began on 1 May lowered pump prices by about €0.17 per litre, a measure critics say offers only limited relief compared with the billions in additional corporate profits.
