German painting and decorating trades integrate AI and robotics

The painting and decorating trades in Germany are increasingly integrating digital technologies such as artificial intelligence and robotics. At the Brillux Campus in Münster, a three-day AI workshop brought together 37 companies and six experts to develop practical AI solutions for daily manual labor. The workshop, led by digital strategist Christoph Krause, resulted in six functional prototypes designed to address specific challenges on construction sites.

Furthering this technological focus, the German Painting and Varnishing Championship will take place in Bremen from November 15 to 18, 2026. While the competition features up to 16 young professionals competing in traditional tasks like wallpapering and lacquering, the event will also include a future dialogue regarding the use of AI, robotics, exoskeletons, and assistance systems in the craft. The championship aims to showcase both traditional skill and modern technological advancements to students and industry professionals.
