German Parents Show Mixed Attitudes Toward AI-Enabled Baby Products
A YouGov study commissioned by the organisers of the Kind + Jugend trade fair surveyed German parents about artificial‑intelligence (AI) powered products for babies and toddlers. About half of respondents said they are open to using AI‑enabled devices, while a comparable share remain cautious. Safety (36 %) and data‑privacy (35 %) are the top reasons for hesitation, with 26 % also worrying about possible effects on child development. Cost is less important, mentioned by only 23 % of parents.
Nearly three‑quarters of younger parents (ages 18‑24) view AI products positively, compared with 56 % of those aged 25‑34 and 43 % of parents over 35. Fathers are more receptive (59 %) than mothers (41 %). When asked where AI could help most, participants cited household organisation (29 %), home safety (26 %) and general family‑day management (29 %). Existing digital usage is common – more than half of the sample already use health, nutrition or sleep‑tracking apps, while 42 % have not yet tried any such solutions.
