German parties name candidates for North Rhine-Westphalia election

Political parties are finalizing their candidate lists and personnel for the North Rhine-Westphalia state election, scheduled for April 25, 2027.

In Dortmund, the CDU has announced its candidates for the four local constituencies: Michael Batzdorff (Dortmund I), Claudia Branz (Dortmund II), Ina Brandes (Dortmund III), and Nils Berning (Dortmund IV). The SPD is also fielding candidates in these districts, relying on current state parliament members Ralf Stolze, Volkan Baran, Nadja Lüders, and Anja Butschkau to defend their seats.

Meanwhile, Die Linke is preparing for a potential return to the state parliament after a 15-year absence. During a party congress in Hagen, delegates are selecting candidates for the state list. The party's leadership has already nominated Alexandra Mehdi and Sebastian Merkens as the top duo to lead the campaign.
