Veterinarians advise German pet owners that sudden swelling of a dog’s nose or a cat’s paw may be caused by an insect sting. The stinger should be carefully removed with tweezers, the area cooled with an ice pack, and the animal observed for allergic reactions. Owners of pets known to be allergic should carry a prescribed emergency injection and seek veterinary care promptly, especially if the sting occurs in the mouth or throat.

In a separate case, a woman in Weiden required emergency surgery after a minor cat scratch led to a severe infection. The patient spent 14 days in hospital for treatment, highlighting the risk of bacterial complications from seemingly trivial pet injuries.
