Oktoberfest 2026: New security, rising beer prices, and mild weather

The 191st Oktoberfest is set to begin in Munich on September 19, 2026, with over 6 million visitors expected. This year's festival introduces significant changes to security and pricing.

Security measures have been heavily upgraded following incidents in previous years. Authorities are deploying approximately 600 police officers, supported by international forces and specialized units. New technology, including AI-powered cameras to monitor crowd density and the ‘SafeNow’ app for emergency assistance, will be implemented to prevent overcrowding. A new coordination center has also been established to improve communication between security agencies and the city.

Economically, attendees face rising costs. The average price for a liter of beer is expected to be 15.61 euros, a 2.4 percent increase from last year. This price is nearly five times higher than the average in 1985. For visitors planning a weekend trip, costs including accommodation and food are estimated to reach approximately 871 euros for two people.

Weather forecasts for the start of the festival suggest mild and sunny conditions, with temperatures reaching between 19 and 24 degrees Celsius. Health officials also advise visitors to take precautions against the ‘Wiesngrippe,’ a common respiratory infection spread in crowded festival tents.
