German police alert to holiday home burglaries and traveller scams

Security experts advise Bavarian homeowners to reinforce vacant properties during vacations with a combination of certified mechanical locks, alarm systems, video surveillance and smart‑phone‑controlled lighting. Risks rise when houses are empty for long periods, windows are dark and mailboxes are full, especially in areas such as Munich, the Five Lakes region and around Lake Starnberg. Victims who hand over cash receive no repayment.
