German railway stations targeted in series of station clock thefts

The Federal Police are investigating a series of thefts involving station clocks at several German railway stations. In Leutenbach/Nellmersbach, two clocks weighing approximately 18 kilograms each were removed from a height of 2.5 meters. The estimated damage for this incident is around 10,000 euros.

Similar thefts were reported at the Leonberg-Höfingen and Böblingen-Goldberg stations. In the latter case, the theft was only discovered after passengers complained to Deutsche Bahn. Authorities noted that the stolen clocks are likely useless to the thieves because they are hardwired to the Deutsche Bahn technical infrastructure and do not operate via radio signals.

Police are investigating whether these incidents are linked. While Deutsche Bahn described the thefts as “absolute isolated cases,” the Federal Police are looking into potential connections between the various locations.
