German police caution against car caravans during World Cup celebrations

Police in North Rhine‑Westphalia warned that vehicle convoys – known locally as “autokorsos” – are prohibited during the football World Cup because they pose serious risks to drivers, pedestrians and other road users. Officers said the formations can lead to unsafe distances between cars, driver distraction, and accidents, especially when combined with alcohol or traffic violations. The police urged fans to respect seat‑belt rules, traffic signals and to avoid loud horns or music that disturbs neighbours.

In Cologne, the local racetrack will host a public viewing of Germany’s first match of the tournament. The venue will feature a 26‑square‑metre LED screen, a beer garden, and free admission for fans. Organisers highlighted the schedule of group‑stage games, semi‑finals and the final, and noted that match start times after 10 p.m. may be shown on a later schedule if Germany advances.
