Germany Speedweek enforcement impacts driving speeds

Data from traffic provider TomTom indicates that increased speed enforcement during the Speedweek in several German states had a measurable impact on driving behavior. While results were not uniform across all cities, average speeds in Bremen, Frankfurt, and Hannover were lower than in July. The impact was most notable among high-speed drivers, specifically at the 90th and 95th percentiles on urban motorways in cities like Stuttgart, Hamburg, and Bremen.

In contrast, cities without Speedweek enforcement, such as Munich and Leipzig, saw different trends; Munich experienced higher average speeds, likely due to reduced traffic during summer holidays.

Separate traffic enforcement actions in Germany included a week-long campaign in the Bergisches Städtedreieck region, resulting in over 1,000 speeding violations across Solingen, Wuppertal, and Remscheid. Additionally, police in Melsungen conducted large-scale checks on e-scooters, identifying various technical violations and suspected drug use among riders.
