German Police Liaison Heads to US for 2026 World Cup Security Coordination

German police officials are scaling up security preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico. Policeoberstar Mika Stalleicken travelled to Leesburg, Virginia to serve as the German liaison at the International Police Cooperation Center (IPCC 2026). He will work alongside a team from the Central Information Point Sport Operations (ZIS) in Duisburg, a representative of the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) and police officers from the tournament's participating nations. The centre will exchange verified information and coordinate rapid responses during the event, with German officers scheduled for seven‑day‑a‑week shift work throughout the tournament. Stalleicken noted that the cooperation aims to "prevent violence and disruptions linked to football matches" and ensure a "peaceful football festival for all".

The initiative reflects Germany's commitment to contribute to the safety of the overseas tournament and to share intelligence with international partners well ahead of the competition, which is set to conclude on 17 July 2026.
