German police probe senior fraud scams in Hof and Marl

In Hof, a senior woman was deceived by a phone caller who claimed her son was gravely ill and needed money for treatment. Between 14:00 and 15:00 she handed over a low six‑figure sum of cash in a white cloth bag to an unidentified man described as about 35 years old, wearing a checkered shirt and jeans. Police are seeking witnesses to the hand‑over.

In Marl, another senior received a call allegedly from her bank warning of suspicious withdrawals. While on the phone, a man posing as a bank employee knocked on her door and tried to take her bank card for a supposed replacement. The woman asked to see his ID, and the suspect fled. Police are investigating a possible link to similar fraud cases in the region and are requesting information from the public.
