German police probe telephone bank scams that duped seniors in two regions

In the Rems‑Murr‑Kreis district, a senior woman from Haubersbronn handed over several thousand euros to a caller posing as a bank employee who claimed police would collect the cash for safety. She gave the money in an envelope to a woman described as overweight, with shoulder‑length hair and an Eastern‑European appearance.

In Dorsten, another senior was told an ATM had dispensed counterfeit bills and that a bank representative would retrieve his cash and card. He handed both to a man described as early‑20s, about 1.70 m tall with black hair. Police in both districts are seeking witnesses and warn that the “false bank employee” phone scam is targeting older adults across Germany.
