German police ramp up speed checks across Hesse and Trier

During the Europe‑wide "Speedweek" that runs from 4 to 9 August, the Hessian police have intensified speed monitoring in eastern Hesse. Mobile and stationary speed cameras are deployed on highways, federal roads, near schools, hospitals and construction sites. In 2025 the force checked more than 813,000 vehicles and recorded 25,775 speed violations. Interior Minister Roman Poseck said the operation aims to raise awareness of the dangers of excessive speed and protect lives.

At the same time, police in the Trier region – covering Trier, parts of Luxembourg and the Saarland – published a list of locations where speed cameras will be active on 5 August. The announcement includes specific road sections and outlines the fines and penalty points that drivers face for exceeding speed limits.

Both actions are part of broader efforts by German authorities to curb traffic speeding and improve road safety.
