Dortmund forest fire in Lanstrop extinguished, police probe arson

A vegetation fire broke out in the small forest area of Lanstrop on the outskirts of Dortmund on the night of 26 July 2026. Around 60 firefighters from the Dortmund fire station (Wache 6) responded, using multiple C‑hoses, hand tools, two drones and fire‑extinguishing backpacks to put out the visible flames and later locate and extinguish hidden ember nests. The operation continued through the night and was declared under control by early Sunday, with no injuries reported and damage figures not yet released.

Police were notified around 21:24 h and have opened a criminal investigation for possible arson. The investigation remains open, with no suspect identified at this stage.
