German police seek witnesses after multiple cycling accidents and hit‑and‑run incidents

Police in the Hersfeld‑Rotenburg district responded to two separate hit‑and‑run vehicle incidents on Saturday. In Bad Hersfeld a grey Skoda was struck in a parking bay, causing about €1,500 in damage, and a grey VW was hit later on a public lot, with damage of roughly €2,000. Both drivers fled the scene. In Bebra a 56‑year‑old cyclist from Ronshausen suffered severe injuries after falling in an underpass and was taken to hospital; no property damage was recorded. Authorities have asked the public to provide any information via phone or the online police portal.

During the final stage of the Saarland Trofeo race on 14 June, an 82‑year‑old woman on an e‑mobility vehicle entered the race route on the L105 road in Habkirchen. She collided with the peloton, causing a cyclist to overturn and two additional riders to fall. The woman and one cyclist were lightly injured, and the race continued. One rider, Paul Vriesman, posted on Instagram, "Mir fehlen die Worte, wie so etwas passieren kann," expressing shock at the incident.
