German police union calls for crackdown on illegal gambling
The Police Union (GdP) and the association Die Deutsche Automatenwirtschaft have issued a joint position paper calling for increased state intervention to combat illegal gambling and the black market. The groups argue that unauthorized slot machines in venues such as pubs and cultural clubs require more effective enforcement and better coordination between authorities.
Key proposals include the legal implementation of a 'reversal of the burden of proof' to facilitate the seizure of assets when there is a significant discrepancy between a person's wealth and their legitimate income. Additionally, the groups advocate for gang-based or commercial illegal gambling to be classified as a crime that permits source telecommunications surveillance, allowing police to use monitoring software to bypass encrypted communications.
To support these efforts, the GdP suggests that a portion of the proceeds seized from illegal gambling activities should be redirected into state police budgets.
