German politicians conduct regional bicycle tours

German politicians are conducting regional bicycle tours to engage with citizens and local issues. Lars Klingbeil of the SPD has scheduled a series of cycling routes through the Heidekreis and Rotenburg districts in August 2026. The tour aims to facilitate personal encounters and discussions with residents across several segments, including Rethem, Hodenhagen, Visselhövede, and Scheeßel.

Separately, Mathias Wagner, parliamentary group leader of the Greens in the Hessian Landtag, visited the Vogelsberg district as part of his summer tour. His visit focused on flood protection and biodiversity, specifically inspecting new rainwater retention basins near Schotten. The project aims to mitigate flooding from heavy rainfall, promote groundwater formation, and provide habitats for wildlife and amphibians. Local representatives used the visit to advocate for the reintroduction of groundwater levies and expanded opportunities for ecological credit trading.
