German politicians demand ban on Thompson concerts

Representatives of the Die Linke party in the city councils of Frankfurt and Stuttgart have called for the urgent cancellation of upcoming concerts by Croatian singer Marko Perković Thompson, scheduled for November.

Politicians argue that the performances are not merely cultural events but political gatherings that promote ethnonationalist propaganda and historical revisionism. They specifically cited his recent concert in Vukovar, where the Ustaše salute ‘Za dom spremni’ was reportedly used, as evidence of spreading extremism. Die Linke members in Stuttgart emphasized that taxpayer-funded venues should not be used to relativize fascism or incite ethnic tensions.

Despite the political opposition, the concerts appear to be highly anticipated. The November 13 performance at Frankfurt’s Jahrhunderthalle is sold out, and tickets for the November 7 show at Stuttgart’s Porsche-Arena, which holds approximately 7,500 people, sold out in less than three hours.
