German politicians engage with students on political issues

German members of parliament, Dr. Thomas Pauls and Thorsten Frei, recently held discussions with students to address current political challenges and social issues.

Dr. Thomas Pauls visited the Ernst-Ludwig-Schule in Bad Nauheim to meet with advanced politics students. The discussion focused on the future of the CDU, political polarization, and the rise of extremist parties such as the AfD and Die Linke. Pauls addressed the necessity of confronting extreme parties through content and noted that while a ban on the AfD should occur if evidence is clear, he does not currently see sufficient grounds for such a procedure. He also discussed the complexities of military service and the importance of voluntary enlistment.

Thorsten Frei, Chairman of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group, met with 108 students from Realschule Wolfach at the Bundestag. The dialogue covered government spending, pension policy, and the growth of political fringes. Frei remarked that while fringe parties often correctly identify societal problems, such as housing issues raised by Die Linke, they frequently fail to provide sustainable solutions compared to the approaches proposed by the CDU/CSU.
