AfD Leads Saxony-Anhalt Election Polls as Support Tops 40%

A recent Infratest dimap poll of 1,149 eligible voters in Saxony‑Anhalt (July 23‑28) found the Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) at 41 % support, ahead of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) at 24 %, The Left at 13 %, the Social Democratic Party (SPD) at 7 %, the Greens at 5 % and the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW) at 4 %. The same survey showed 44 % of respondents would prefer an AfD‑led state government versus 43 % for the CDU, and 36 % rated the AfD most capable of solving the state’s key problems compared with 16 % for the CDU.

Nationally, the Forsa Trendbarometer recorded a record‑high 27 % for the AfD, with INSA and other polls placing it at 28‑27 %. The SPD remains at about 12 %, the Greens at 16 %, and the CDU/CSU at 21 %.

The German Institute for Economic Research (DIW) warned that implementing core AfD policies would cut real disposable income across Germany by roughly 4 % and, in Saxony‑Anhalt, by 6.2 %, reducing average monthly wages by about €206 and potentially lowering per‑capita income by up to €1,600.

East German voters appear especially receptive: 47 % would support an AfD participation in government, and 47 % back the AfD overall. The election campaign also features AfD candidate Ulrich Siegmund campaigning on a Simson scooter.
