German public overwhelmingly backs heat‑protection investments

A recent ARD‑Germanytrend poll commissioned by Infratest dimap shows that 89 % of German citizens support increased spending on heat‑protection measures for infrastructure such as roads, schools and hospitals. Around two‑thirds (66 %) say they are very or fairly worried that climate change will threaten their livelihoods, with women expressing higher concern (74 % vs 59 % of men). A majority (58 %) rejects the idea of sidelining climate action in favour of other crises. When asked who should bear responsibility for climate mitigation, 59 % point to industry and 33 % to consumers; 38 % back a CO₂‑tax to reflect ecological costs, while 54 % oppose it. The survey interviewed 1,317 eligible voters aged 18 + between 29 June and 1 July and is reported as representative of the German population.
