German Radio Updates: RTL’s 89.0 Plans DAB+ Expansion and DASDING Launches New Sound

RTL’s youth-oriented station 89.0 RTL is discussing a possible rollout on the nationwide DAB+ multiplex. Critics note the station’s playlist overlaps heavily with the main RTL hit radio and question the commercial sense of broadcasting two similar formats across the country. The proposal follows earlier regional DAB pilot projects and would extend the station’s reach beyond its current focus on Lower Saxony and Saxony‑Anhalt.

Separate from RTL, the youth channel DASDING, a joint venture of Südwestrundfunk, Hessischer Rundfunk and Saarländischer Rundfunk, began broadcasting on 1 June 2026 with a refreshed audio identity. Audio agency Wisebuddah was commissioned to create the new sound package, adding modern male and female vocals, German MC segments and a design suited for both radio and social‑media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram. The update targets listeners aged 20‑29 and aims to blend the channel’s legacy with a contemporary brand image.
