German rail lines closed for maintenance cause weeks of bus replacements
The Harz narrow‑gauge railway between Wernigerode and Drei Annen Hohne will be closed from 15 June to 21 June while a level‑crossing at Westerntor is rebuilt. The operator will provide replacement bus services and notes that the Brocken summit remains reachable by train from other stations.
In North Rhine‑Westphalia, a major bridge renovation on the line between Fröndenberg and Meschede will begin with a four‑week shutdown of RE 17 and RE 57 services. Buses will replace the trains, roughly doubling travel times. The project, split into several phases, will continue with additional bridge rebuilds and track work through 2027.
