German rail services face continued delays and construction disruptions
German rail services continue to face significant disruptions due to ongoing construction and technical challenges. On the RE1 line between Berlin Ostbahnhof and Eisenhüttenstadt, commuters face cancellations, schedule changes, and replacement bus services through September 18 due to DB InfraGO AG construction work. Specifically, some RE1 trains between Erkner and Frankfurt (Oder) will be cancelled until September 4.
Meanwhile, the Hamburg–Berlin route has struggled to reach target punctuality levels following a major general renovation. According to a response from the federal government to a parliamentary inquiry, delays during the summer were attributed to high track temperatures, local storms, and the ripple effects of construction measures. Deutsche Bahn noted that technical systems are being brought online incrementally, and some defects may only become apparent during regular operations. Further nighttime track closures are expected in the coming weeks to complete final optimizations and technical commissioning.
