A new project titled ‘Read Until the Train Arrives’ is transforming German railway stations into cultural hubs by offering condensed versions of literary classics. Using artificial intelligence to summarize texts, the initiative provides passengers with short readings—ranging from five to thirty minutes—to match their waiting times.

Featured works include Franz Kafka’s ‘The Metamorphosis’, Jules Verne’s ‘20,000 Leagues Under the Sea’, and Martin Luther King Jr.’s ‘I Have a Dream’ speech. While the summaries are AI-generated, organizers state they aim to preserve the original tone and language of the source material.

The project reflects a broader trend toward micro-learning and accessible content, similar to apps like Instanted that offer 15-minute summaries of bestsellers. This approach is also seen in educational ‘light’ editions designed to assist students, language learners, and those with reading difficulties by using simplified grammar and structure.
