German Red Cross promotes blood donation with new age guidelines

The German Red Cross is promoting blood donation drives in various locations, including upcoming events in Weddinghofen. A recent blood donation action day in Koblenz, organized in cooperation with the police, saw 59 participants contribute to regional blood supplies.

New medical guidelines from the German Medical Association have removed the upper age limit for blood donors. Eligibility is now determined by an individual's overall health and fitness rather than a fixed age. This change applies retroactively, meaning individuals who previously stopped donating due to age may be eligible to return if cleared by medical personnel. Potential donors are encouraged to use online checks or hotlines to verify their eligibility, particularly if they are taking specific medications.
