Thomas Weikert to step down as DOSB President
Thomas Weikert is expected to announce that he will not seek another term as president of the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB), ending his five-year leadership of the organization.
His departure initiates a leadership race at a critical time for German sports. The successor will face the significant task of managing Munich’s bid for the Olympic Summer Games, with decisions regarding potential hosting years (2036, 2040, or 2044) expected in the coming years.
Potential candidates for the presidency include IOC member Michael Mronz and German Triathlon Union president Martin Engelhardt. The election for the new DOSB president is scheduled for December 5 at the membership assembly in Frankfurt.
