German regional trains face two incidents on July 8 – evacuation near Kamen‑Methler and fatal crash in Gengenbach

At about 05:20 local time on 8 July, a Regionalexpress near Kamen‑Methler in North Rhine‑Westphalia was forced to stop after an overhead line failure. Fire‑brigade units evacuated roughly 30 passengers from the rear carriage using portable ladders; no injuries were reported.

Later that morning, around 11:00, a car entered the Kinizigstraße level crossing in Gengenbach‑Schönberg, colliding with a Regionalexpress on the Black Forest line. The car driver died at the scene, while the train driver and about 200 passengers remained unharmed. The line was closed for investigations and rescue operations.

Both incidents prompted the involvement of Deutsche Bahn’s emergency management, the federal police and local emergency services, and led to temporary suspensions of rail traffic in the affected sections.
