German Regions Boost Cycling Tourism with UNESCO Heritage Routes and Leipzig Wildcat Trail

Leipzig’s tourism sector marked its 30‑year anniversary with a breakfast event in the Moritzbastei, featuring presentations of new bike routes such as the KRAUT & RÜBEN sustainable‑food trail, the NOTENWEG music‑history walk and the ADFC RADTOURENPROGRAMM offering over 50 tours annually. The event also highlighted the opening of an interactive Wildcat education path in Heyda, aimed at protecting the European wildcat.

In the neighbouring Anhalt‑Dessau‑Wittenberg region, a 700‑kilometre network of sign‑posted cycling routes connects four UNESCO World Heritage sites – the Luther sites in Wittenberg and Eisleben, Bauhaus locations in Dessau, the Dessau‑Wörlitz garden realm, and the Mittelelbe biosphere reserve. The themed tours let cyclists experience Reformation history, Bauhaus architecture, 18th‑century garden art and regional nature from a new perspective.
