German rescue organizations protest emergency reform amid regional expansion pauses
Major German rescue organizations, including the German Red Cross, ADAC Luftrettung, and the German Fire Brigade Association, held a protest at Berlin’s Brandenburg Gate. They are demanding improvements to the planned national emergency care reform, specifically calling for reliable financing and mandatory participation in decision-making bodies.
In North Rhine-Westphalia, Health Minister Karl-Josef Laumann has issued a decree to pause the expansion of new rescue stations. This decision follows expected federal reforms and an ongoing dispute regarding the financing of ‘erroneous runs’—emergency calls where patients are treated but not transported to a hospital. While new construction projects already underway will proceed, uninitiated plans are being held back to align with upcoming legislative changes and planning deadlines.
