German residential construction sentiment improves despite order shortages
The business climate in the German residential construction sector showed signs of improvement in August. According to data from the Ifo Institute, the business climate index rose from -29.0 to -22.7 points.
This upward trend was primarily driven by improved expectations from companies rather than current market conditions. While the outlook for future framework conditions has become more positive, the assessment of the current business situation remains characterized by dissatisfaction.
Despite the shift in sentiment, the actual order situation remains weak. Approximately 41.3 percent of companies continue to report a shortage of orders, indicating that the improvement in sentiment has not yet translated into a significant increase in real-world business activity.
