German rural women's associations mark anniversaries and look to the future

Rural women's associations in Germany are marking significant anniversaries while navigating the changing landscape of agriculture and community engagement.

In Groß-Gerau, the Landfrauen association is celebrating its 75th anniversary. Longtime chairwoman Heidrun Franzmann noted that while the region remains agricultural, interest in farming has declined, and challenges such as a lack of young successors and tight municipal budgets affect the group. The association provides a platform for exchange, continuing traditions like cooking courses, lectures, and participation in local markets.

In Bavaria, the Landfrauen group of the Bavarian Farmers' Association (Bayerischer Bauernverband) recently celebrated its 70th anniversary. During a state-wide meeting in Herrsching, State Farmer Anneliese Göller discussed the future of the organization. Göller predicted that the work of these women will become increasingly diverse over the next two decades, with a growing focus on agricultural policy and digitalization, alongside traditional roles in education, public relations, and the preservation of customs.
