The Kopernikus Realschule athletics squad captured first place at the state final of the "Jugend trainiert für Olympia" competition in Sindelfingen. The team posted personal bests across sprint, jump, throw and relay events, securing qualification for the inter‑regional Rhein‑Main‑Donau Cup, where they will face top schools from Bavaria, Baden‑Württemberg and Rhineland‑Palatinate.

In parallel, VfR Büttgen’s over‑40 football side finished second in the Niederrheinmeisterschaft, trailing unbeaten SC Kapellen. Their performance, including a 3‑2 win over TuS Stenern 1955 and a 2‑1 victory against SV Heisingen, earned the team a place in the upcoming championship in Duisburg‑Wanheim. The matches were played in heat exceeding 32 °C, with the squad fielding only seven players at times yet still delivering a strong showing.
