German school construction projects face delays and space shortages

Construction of a new Gymnasium in Ergolding, Bavaria, is progressing with a projected cost of about €32 million. The school, dubbed a “Supergymnasium” in the press, features a distinctive angular design, full LED lighting, and noise‑shielded classrooms despite its proximity to the B15 highway. An open‑site visit allowed the public to tour the building, and the first school day is scheduled for September, though completion remains uncertain.

In Plettenberg, North Rhine‑Westphalia, the Geschwister‑Scholl‑Realschule is addressing a severe space shortage by preparing two additional container classrooms. Foundations for the containers have been installed, and the project, initially estimated at €140 000, is driven by the influx of students after a nearby school closed. The containers are expected to be delivered later, while the broader school renovation is now slated to begin in spring 2027.
