German schools hold enrollment ceremonies for new students

Various German schools, including Johanneum and Taunusgymnasium, held ceremonies to welcome new fifth-grade students for the start of the school year.

At Johanneum, the event featured musical performances by the Juni Orchestra, the Boy Choir 6, and the Junior Band. The new principal, Dr. Janneck, shared guiding principles with students, while sixth-grade students performed skits to help newcomers navigate social situations and school life. The orientation included introductions from class teachers and mentors.

Taunusgymnasium hosted a ceremony in its sports hall that began with an ecumenical service. The event included musical contributions from the school orchestra and vocalists. Principal Beate Herbst delivered a speech referencing Roald Dahl’s ‘Matilda’ to emphasize the importance of intelligence, courage, and kindness. The school also highlighted its mentorship program, where older students provide practical support to new arrivals.
