German schools host 2026 'Känguru' mathematics competition with over 200 participants

In March 2026, more than 200 pupils from German secondary schools took part in the annual Känguru der Mathematik contest. At Gymnasium Zitadelle Jülich, over 100 students from grades 5‑10 solved a series of challenging puzzles, with first‑place awards going to Henri Seifert (5a), Daniel Zimmermann (6c) and Oday Alia (8b). The ceremony on 29 May featured student musical performances.

At Lessing‑Gymnasium Lampertheim, 133 students entered the competition. First‑place winners were Niclas Mähne (6f), Pia Bauer (5e) and Luca Kattermann (5f). The event also recognized runners‑up and third‑place finishers, and highlighted the longest streak of correct answers – the “Känguru‑Sprung” – achieved by Niclas Mähne. All participants received certificates and a small gift, with the school’s Förderverein covering entry fees.
