German schools implement regional food programs for students

Educational institutions in Germany are implementing new measures to improve student nutrition through regional partnerships. At Dietrich-Bonhoeffer-Grundschule in Weinheim, students are receiving fresh, seasonal fruit every Tuesday as part of the EU school program for fruit and vegetables. The produce is supplied locally by Obsthof Hauck from Edingen-Neckarhausen to promote healthy eating habits and sustainability.

Similarly, Gymnasium Gerolzhofen has enhanced its food services for the new school year. A new staff member from the Gaibach economic department is now managing break-time sales and lunch distribution. The school's snack service is supplied by Bäckerei Schmitt from Frankenwinheim, while lunches for the Open All-Day School (OGS) are prepared fresh and regionally at the FLSH Schloss Gaibach kitchen. These updates aim to reduce the administrative burden on students and provide more diverse meal options, such as freshly prepared items.
