German Schools Introduce Community Breakfast and Senior Lunch Programs
At the Augustaschule in Hervester, fourth‑grade students marked the end of their primary school year with a communal healthy breakfast organized by school social worker Claudia Schmieder‑Freese and an active parents' café. The "Gesund und lecker" project provides a varied buffet of nutritious foods, aims to teach balanced nutrition, improve concentration, and foster social interaction among the children.
In the neighboring villages of Dieterskirchen and Schwarzhofen, local primary schools will open their midday cafeterias to seniors, offering warm meals without the need for cooking at home. The initiative is designed to give older residents regular, affordable nutrition and a place for social contact, extending the schools' role as community hubs beyond the school day.
