German schools participate in Stolpersteine memorial projects

Local communities in Germany are continuing the Stolpersteine project, a decentralized memorial by artist Gunter Demnig designed to commemorate victims of National Socialism at their last known places of residence.

In Oberwesel, a public memorial ceremony was organized by the Heuss-Adenauer Realschule plus and the city to lay stones for the Lichtenstein family. Students participated in the project by researching the biographies of Jewish families in the city to ensure their history remains visible to future generations.

In Lüdenscheid, the Adolf-Reichwein-Gesamtschule sponsored the installation of three stones for the Ripp family, who formerly operated a textile business. Students honored the family through artistic presentations, including portraits and embroidery related to the family's former trade, to provide a personal connection to the historical victims.
