German schools undergo sports hall infrastructure changes

In Vogelsbergkreis, authorities have decided to demolish the single-court sports hall at the Grebenhainer Oberwaldschule. An expert assessment concluded that the 1975 structure is beyond repair due to extensive damage to the ceiling and concrete construction. Instead of costly renovations, the district will invest approximately 9 million euros into the third construction phase of the school, which will utilize the site to build new classrooms.

In Dresden, the sports hall at the 30. Grundschule ‘Am Hechtpark’ has reopened following a closure that began in December 2025. The city invested approximately 50,000 euros to replace a damaged wooden floor with a new linoleum surface to eliminate injury risks. While the floor has been renewed, city officials noted that this is a transitional solution, as long-term plans still include the construction of a completely new sports hall for the school.
