German schools welcome new students with mentor programs
Schools in Germany have welcomed new students for the start of the academic year through various orientation activities and community welcoming traditions.
At Comenius Gymnasium Deggendorf, tenth-grade tutors assisted fifth-grade students in navigating their new environment. The tutors provided guidance on school layouts, schedules, and daily routines, and presented the new students with 'Comenius hearts' as symbols of community and cohesion.
At Kampenwand-Schule, first-grade students were welcomed by the school leadership and seventh-grade mentors. The ceremony included a storytelling session and the presentation of handmade hearts by the mentors, followed by a communal welcome in the schoolyard.
